Power Distribution SME

Brunel is seeking a Power Distribution SME to provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise for power distribution infrastructure, reliability programs, asset management initiatives, and capital improvement projects. This role is responsible for evaluating, improving, and sustaining the reliability, safety, and performance of overhead power lines, substations, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, and related electrical assets. The successful candidate will lead infrastructure assessments, identify improvement opportunities, and support projects through planning, design, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the organization's subject matter expert (SME) for power distribution systems, substations, reliability, and asset management.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments of electrical infrastructure, including overhead power lines, substations, transformers, switchgear, protective relays, grounding systems, capacitor banks, and SCADA systems.
• Evaluate infrastructure against company standards, industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and reliability-centered maintenance principles.
• Identify deficiencies and risks related to engineering design, construction quality, equipment condition, maintenance practices, inspections, asset management processes, and operational readiness.
• Develop corrective action plans and long-term reliability improvement strategies.
• Review existing and proposed electrical system designs for compliance with applicable standards and engineering best practices.
• Provide technical support during concept development, detailed engineering, design reviews, equipment selection, and factory acceptance testing (FAT).
• Assess and improve maintenance programs, inspection practices, condition monitoring strategies, and asset management processes.
• Develop maintenance strategies and standards for power lines, substations, transformers, switchgear, relays, grounding systems, and auxiliary equipment.
• Establish preventative maintenance programs, asset health monitoring processes, reliability metrics, and performance indicators.
• Provide technical leadership during infrastructure upgrades, equipment replacements, system expansions, major outages, and capital improvement projects.
• Review contractor and consultant work to ensure compliance with project specifications, engineering requirements, and safety standards.
• Conduct field inspections, quality audits, acceptance testing, protection testing, commissioning activities, and system startup support.
• Develop project scopes of work, technical specifications, budgets, execution plans, and capital project recommendations.
• Support annual capital planning and reliability improvement initiatives.
• Manage and coordinate engineering consultants, contractors, testing vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Lead equipment failure investigations and root cause analyses.
• Develop technical standards, maintenance procedures, and asset management best practices.
• Mentor engineers, technicians, planners, supervisors, and maintenance personnel.
• Promote continuous improvement in safety, reliability, maintainability, and operational performance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
