Position Title: Senior Geotechnical Field Engineer

Primary Purpose

This role is for a Senior Geotechnical Field Engineer responsible for delivering full-time field support during earthworks activities at Project site located near Pecos, TX. The selected candidate will have a functional reporting line to the Geotechnical & Hydraulic Engineering Services (G&HES) Group Supervisor, or their delegate, while also working closely with the project field engineering team for daily guidance and coordination.The individual should be capable of working autonomously while receiving technical direction and functional oversight when required. Close collaboration with other engineering disciplines is essential, particularly with CSA, Construction, ES&H teams, and project management. Strong organizational skills, teamwork, effective problem-solving capabilities, a proactive mindset, and a drive for innovative design solutions are critical for success in this role.
This assignment has an expected on-site duration of approximately six months. Occasional travel to company and client offices may also be required.

Essential Functions

This position primarily supports earthworks operations at the project site. Additional duties may involve the planning and execution of geotechnical investigations, preparation and review of geotechnical designs and technical specifications, performing engineering calculations, and producing or reviewing geotechnical analyses in compliance with applicable procedures, regulations, standards, and contract requirements.The role includes monitoring project scope, schedule, and cost, as well as collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in an integrated work environment. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing on-site technical oversight for earthworks activities
  • Supporting soil and/or rock excavation efforts
  • Ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and drawings related to earthworks and excavation support
  • Preparing and reviewing technical documentation such as reports and memos
  • Evaluating vendor submissions and incorporating relevant data into design solutions
  • Meeting schedule commitments while maintaining high-quality deliverables
  • Working closely with other engineering disciplines to plan and execute work collaboratively

Essential skills and knowledge 

Basic Qualifications and Work Experience:

  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or other related Engineering discipline from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of +10 years of progressively relevant industry experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • In-depth expertise in earthworks, with a particular focus on best practices for cold weather conditions
  • Strong proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and database software
  • Advanced understanding of site investigations, subsurface conditions, foundation engineering, earthwork design, and slope stability analysis involving soil and/or rock
  • Familiarity with applicable industry codes, standards, and guidelines
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with strong listening, planning, and organizational abilities
  • Hands-on experience with geotechnical software such as Slope/W, Plaxis, as well as Microsoft Office and other commonly used applications
  • Proven experience working on large-scale earthworks projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure in Geotechnical Engineering or an equivalent credential
  • Relevant experience in geotechnical engineering related to earthworks design and constructio
  • Familiarity with standard geotechnical software and analytical tools
